Wing Born

Hey all - here are some images from my new story: Wing Born. Haven't gotten past the introduction yet- but hopefully I'll have some more time for writing soon. Plans are to make the novel much shorter than my last, and to have more illustrations throughout. (semi-graphic novel - perhaps an illustration every few pages). As you can see I'm experimenting with different styles, some which take more patience than others (the last image was made in illustrator ... oooi.... took forever. Not doing that again...) The top is clearly just painting over a sketch, while the other two are a rough paint on top of the first method. Let me know what you think.

hey jon - cool images! i actually like the one made in illustrator least of them all... so i say stick to your sketching talents! of the other three, i like each one for its own reason: the blue study does such a brilliant job of creating both scene & mood using shades of only one color - the gray tone is perfect for the building - and the throne room scene uses color to create a real sense of royalty & elegance. i love them all! but what i really want to know is - why is that guy looking so scared to see a beautiful woman in his room? i mean, isn't that every man's dream? she looks nice to me... ;-)

Um...I think she looks kind of mad. I wouldn't want to wake up with a woman looking down at me like that, even if I were a guy :P

I like them all - artistically, I like the feel of the middle two best. For a graphic novel, however - sorry, Jon - I actually like the illustrator pic most of all, hands down. It feels more crisp and definitive, and is character-focused, which most graphic novels seem to be.

i like the second image. The style looks more like an illustration in a novel. The top one I like as well. The one in illustrator seems a little "cut and dry" to me. More storybook rather than novel. great images though! all of them. You should post an overview of your new story!

Hi Jon!

You could do a book like "The Invention of Hugo Cabret." (See my review at http://rebeccasrecommendedreads.blogspot.com)
It had pages of text interspersed with pages and pages of pictures. There were no word bubbles, it felt more cinematic than graphic-novel-ish. I thought it was very effective.
