Concept for next sculpture...

This is the same character as before, Elraeynn, only a full figure version as a concept piece for creating a sculpture (www.jonmaque.blogspot.com) I'd like to get anyone's vote on which of the two costumes you like better. The one on top I like because it shows her gills (which open up under her ribcage), but the bottom one is a bit more sophisticated, which kindof matches her character. So either one works, what I'd like for feedback is everyone's opinion on which is more visually appealing. In the sculpture one of her tentacles will be touching the rock in the background, which is how I'll support her in the air. The challenge will be getting her to look like she's flowing through water - it'll take a lot of wire in the hair, the tentacles, and even wire mesh in the cloth to get it to fold properly. I'll put LEDs in her dual lamp, of course.

hmmm...I really like that the bottom one is more elegant, and like you said, sophisticated. I do like that you can see her gills in the top one. Would it be possible to tweak the bottom one so that you can see her gills? Both are amazing though! Great job!

I like the top one's skirt way better, it makes me think of seaweed but somehow really pretty seaweed. I also think the top one makes more sense if she is breathing through these gills, because I don't usually clothe my mouth or nose, unobstructed airway and all that. I really like the top one better, but the bottom one is great too, so as always your call.

Nice, Jon! It is hard for me to decide which I like better, but the two costumes definitely have a different effect. In the top one she's got more of a "bad girl" look. Maybe "wild" would be a better adjective than "bad." The bottom one looks more civilized. I guess it depends on what kind of a party she's headed off to.

Darn you...I had myself all convinced that I was going to vote for the more modest looking one. Me trying to promote that or something I suppose. But if I'm going to be honest with myself-I like the top one better. I like the design of the seaweed, it looks more "underwater" and less human-ish. Also, she looks a lot better now that you fixed her gills and made them more subtle. Excellent job...

I think I was probably going to vote for the bottom (more sophisticated one) until I read in your post about how you plan to sculpt her. If she were going to be on Sark's ship, I would have dressed her in more "normal" clothes, but if she's supposed to be underwater, I think the "seaweed-y" look makes more sense to me.

However, since you just want to know which is more visually appealing... I don't know. They are both so great, it's just too hard to choose!

Hey Jon - are we going for a workable character here? Although I find the placement of gills under her ribs a creative choice, I'm wondering how that would work... does she take water in through her mouth and out through her gills? If so, she probably needs a bigger mouth :) Perhaps you could pretend that she has evolved the ability to absorb oxygen through her gorgeous flowing hair, which has lots of contact with the water. Then you can use the lower costuming without fear of suffocating her. So there's my thoughts on it.

well, she does have extra holes in her nose so she could breathe in with greater ease. Technically, no species I know of breathes through their hair ;) but plenty breathe in through their mouths and out through their gills.

I'm not sure I agree with your mom. The reason fish have such big mouths is because they have to get water in through their gills by swimming forward and "catching" the water with their mouths. But if the girl had a way to "pump" the water, suppose like a diaphragm that opens to pull water in through the mouth and push it back out the gills, she really wouldn't need that large a mouth. A normal looking one would probably be fine.

Does she have a way to breath air as well as water?

Oh, and I like the bottom one a little better. Your gills are probably not something that you show off. I wouldn't want a shirt that blocked the intake of water, but the outflow wouldn't really be hampered much by the clothing.
